Qatar National Bank (QNB) has become the country's first financial institution to use iris recognition on ATMs and in branches.The bank has deployed a solution developed by Iris Guard, with Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dr Hessa Sultan al-Jaber, unveiling the service on 5 September.QNB Group CEO Ali Ahmed al-Kuwari said iris recognition solution reduces the risk of fraud, identity theft and unauthorised access by protecting confidentiality, integrity, and availability.”QNB's customers will enjoy ease of using the iris recognition technology which will also give customers convenience and the highest financial security, protecting customers in every transaction they make.”In June, The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) revealed details of a biometrics initiative using technology developed by IrisGuard Inc that it is using to authenticate fund distribution for Syrian refugees who have escaped the conflict to JordanThe project uses the EyeBank product developed by iris specialist firm IrisGuard. Refugees can simply to walk up to an IrisGuard-enabled ATM on the street, present one eye only (no card or pin) and withdraw their financial subsidy immediately.
