HAND, The Universal Talent Identifier, was created as an open identity standard. Human & Digital emerged as the intelligence platform that incubated and accelerated it. Today marks the debut of the final institutional pillar: the HAND Foundation.

The Foundation has launched publicly with the activation of its website, handfound.org, establishing what its creators describe as a “permanent governance structure designed to ensure the HAND standard can never be captured, redirected, or sold” – Will Kreth, Creator.

According to the announcement, the HAND Foundation exists to preserve a core principle that infrastructure intended to serve everyone must not be owned by anyone.

While trade associations can administer registries and coordinate participation, the Foundation model is intended to provide long-term stewardship held in public trust. The structure is designed to place the HAND standard beyond mergers and acquisitions, exit strategies, or the strategic ambitions of any single commercial entity.

The launch marks a structural evolution for the organisation, which began in 2015 as a trusted identity registry for talent across media, entertainment, sports, culture, and public life. What initially emerged as a niche infrastructure layer for rights management and attribution has rapidly become increasingly relevant amid the rise of AI-generated content, deepfakes, digital replicas, and synthetic media.

Today, HAND positions itself as the world’s first global B2B Talent ID registry, a system built to enhance visibility, royalty tracking, consent management, and revenue attribution for distinguished legal and natural persons, as well as their connected digital replicas and fictional counterparts.

According to the organisation, HAND has now processed more than 4.4 million unique talent identifiers, including approximately 120,000 globally unique and freely resolvable verified IDs.

The new HAND Foundation will serve as the governance and stewardship layer for the standard itself, operating separately from Human & Digital, Inc., the original for-profit company behind the ecosystem. Human & Digital will continue providing enterprise data transformation, business analytics, and predictive intelligence services built around the registry infrastructure.

Commercial innovation can continue through Human & Digital, while the integrity and neutrality of the identity standard remain protected in permanent public trust.
