Canadian Bank Note Company Limited has been awarded a US$12.4M contract for the procurement of new 'Border Management Systems and ePassports in Guyana, Director-General of the Ministry of Presidency, Joseph Harmon has told local media.At the time, he was addressing reporters at the post-Cabinet press briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency, reports the Guyana Chronicle. "Before, passports were produced on a manual basisߪ the ePassport system allows you to provide information electronically, and that information will go to the Department of Citizenship where these passports can be produced," Harmon told reporters.While not going into the details because of security reasons, the director-general said the new 'Border Management Systems and e Passports' will be linked to an international system of border protection and border security."This is part of an international process in which all of the passports internationally are produced electronically," he posited. This project is being funded by government.
