The Arizona Department of Transportation has selected an automated facial recognition system developed by NEC to improve the credential issuance process. The NeoFace facial recognition solution, which utilizes NEC's NeoFace Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) based biometric solution through a cloud platform, will work against a licence database storing some 16 million images.Connecting with the cloud, NeoFace interfaces with credential issuance processes and reduces fraudulent identity activities. The solution also includes NeoFace Reveal, a proven tool for investigating fraud. Reveal gives ADOT the ability to open investigation cases, perform the search of photographic images and compare against the driver license and identification card records. On 5 August, NEC released a new version of its facial recognition algorithm NeoFace which it says provides a 28% improvement in accuracy in comparison to previous releases. The latest NeoFace product release also offers eight times fewer errors than the next highest performing algorithm, the company said.
