Card personalisation firm Evolis has been selected by the Government of Tanzania for the personalisation and delivery of national voter cards across the country. The contract is the largest ever deal secured by Evolis. "We are talking about 8,400 Zenius printers that were shipped to Tanzania over a six-month timeframe," says Emmanuel Picot, president and CEO, Evolis. "This represents, as of today, a contract worth more than US$4.3 million, billed in the first half of 2015."On 25 October 2015, presidential and parliamentary elections will be held in Tanzania. To ensure the transparency of the elections, the National Election Commission (NEC) has been tasked with registering and enrolling citizens of voting age throughout the country. There are an estimated 23 million people that are eligible to vote out of the country's population of 48 million.According to Evolis, the decentralised and mobile enrolment process uses a Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) case, and proved successful thanks to a partnership between Evolis and a South African integrator who designed the case. This follow-me case hosts all the material required for biometric-based registration of all voters and the delivery of a personal voter card.Evolis adds: "The Zenius card personalisation solution is a key element in a BVR case. It is a compact card printer that delivers photo-quality printing. It can issue a personalised colour card in approximately 30 seconds, thus ensuring an output rate of around 150 cards per hour. With Zenius, anti-forgery features such as standard or customised holograms can be leveraged. Furthermore, the printer boasts a low cost of production, because it uses a cost-efficient half-panel ribbon.Besides the holder's picture and personal data, the card features, on its front, the emblem of the Republic of Tanzania, the NEC logo, a voter ID number, as well as the name of the enrolment station. Biometric data is translated into both a QR code and a barcode. The card's back hosts the emblem of Tanzania featured as a hologram.
