Taiwanese media has reported that touch module supplier General Interface Solution (GIS) plans to ramp up sharply its production capacity for in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor modules in the second half of 2019 to meet rising demand. The company is currently rolling out in-display fingerprint sensor modules at a rate of 2-2.5 million units a month, and the output will soar starting July when some new production facilities come to online, according to company chairman Chou Hsien-ying, reported the DigiTimes.Chou said it is possible for the company to expand its capacity for in-display sensor modules to over 10 million units a month in 2020 with an aim to take up an over 50% market share in the segment. There are chances for the company to start volume production of related sensor modules for 2-3 handset vendors in China in the fourth quarter of 2019 as these clients have released samples of new models built with GIS' sensing solutions, Chou added. In line with the development progress of its clients and the prospects of future demand for sensing devices, GIS' capex for 2019 will reach NT$6 billion (US$189.86 million), with more than NT$1 billion to be used for the development of in-display sensor devices, including optical fingerprint sensor modules, Chou revealed.
