Australia's Department of Immigration is seeking a partner for the development of a new traveller clearance system following successful proof-of-concept trials.The proposed system ascertains prior to travel whether a traveller is eligible to enter or leave Australia through air and sea ports.The agency has undertook two separate proofs-of-concept trials using different technologies developed by Accenture and Unisys.Accenture and Unisys will now both be able to bid for the work, an Immigration spokesperson confirmed to ITNews.The new border clearance system will offer four key capabilities: planning and scheduling; integrated process automation and case management; identity resolution and master data management; and a console for the remote monitoring and controlling of biometric e-gates.In April, Vision-box won an US$18 million contract to supply Australian Customs and Border Protection Service with 92 SmartGates. Eight Australian Airports will receive new departure SmartGates between June 2015 and July 2016: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Cairns and Darwin.The new border clearance platform to be developed by Accenture or Unisys will match a passenger's personal and biometric information against international watchlists and department risk profiling. soon as their intention to travel is flagged, such as through the booking of a ticket or application for a Visa.
