The Sri Lankan Department of Immigration and Emigration has confirmed that new ePassports will be launched early next year.The existing visa issuance system, which currently works with stamps, will also be replaced by newly introduced Machine Readable Visa (MRV) in compliance with the Immigrants and Emigrants Act."Introduction of MRV, which incorporates security features with high technology while complying with International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) standards 9303 is a great milestone," Colombo Page quoted Nawinne as saying.In July 2014, The Australian government said it had funded a project to introduce biometric passports in Sri Lanka, in line with efforts by both countries to tackle the flow of refugees.
