US-based biometric firm SmartMetric says it has successfully incorporated a fingerprint reader into a standard credit and debit card. The biometric credit card uses miniaturised Cortex processor that was made smaller by the R&D team at SmartMetric, along with a specially designed power management system that is used to recharge the card's internal battery. This is an amazing leap forward in identity and card fraud protection,” said SmartMetric's President & CEO Chaya Hendrick. The firm says that enabling a fingerprint reader inside a credit or debit card allows biometric identification to be used to authenticate the card user prior to the card being able to function.
