Tatra banka, one of the top three banks in Slovakia and a part of Raiffeisen Bank International Group, is offering its biometric verification as a service to other companies, allowing third parties to remotely verify their customers by integrating the bank’s API.

Lukas Rybar, Product Manager at Tatra banka: “As soon as we started offering banking verification in 2018, our company clients have expressed a wish to also use the technology”.

The technology was developed using Innovatrics biometric algorithms by integration partner Softec and for 5 years has been one of the first banks to provide this service and open bank accounts remotely.

The bank provides the technology to verify customers however the decision making is given to the third party company to have full control over the secure verification of its users.

Daniel Ferak, Head of the Remote Identity Verification Unit at Innovatrics said: “Biometric algorithms of Innovatrics power remote onboarding for companies all over the globe, but we started with Tatra banka. And we are delighted that Tatra banka pushes its trust in our technology further, by providing its advantages to its customers”.

The technology compares the selfie-style photograph of the user with the photo on the ID and performs a liveness check. It can also cross-check with the database of the Ministry of Interior to increase the security of the solution and prevent ID fraud. The bank is currently adding passports and other IDs to the list of supported IDs. Non-citizens in Slovakia will still have to verify in person due to AML restrictions.

Innovatrics is an independent EU-based provider of trusted biometric solutions for governments and enterprises that will be exhibiting at the upcoming Identity Week America in Washington D.C. on 3-4 October.
