Oman has chosen French identity solutions company Safran Identity and Security to create a single multi-biometric platform for its citizen management.The platform is to be operated by the Sultanate and has been launched to support public security and the development of tourism in the country.Safran Identity & Security's Automated Biometric Information System (ABIS) platform will enable the various solutions to communicate with each other and manage all the biometric databases, including fingerprint, facial and iris recognition, and DNA, all within a unified system.The ABIS will provide biometric services such as enrollment, identification, and verification for all national systems involved in ensuring the security of the Sultanate. These include civil identity, public security, border control and criminal identification.Samuel Fringant, executive vice president for security division at Safran Identity & Security, said, “We are very honored that the Sultanate of Oman has renewed its confidence in Safran Identity & Security after an intense competitive bidding to deploy this unique system in the world.”This contract allows us to consolidate our relationship with Oman and strengthen our local presence through sustained investment, especially in the area of high technologies.”The company has previously supplied Oman's local authorities with an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and a similar system for expatriate workers through iris recognition.
