Beijing-based Ola is developing a Bluetooth-enabled entry lock with a fingerprint scanner built into its handle, removing the need to use keys or passcodes.The $179 lock is already available for pre-order on Kickstarter, where the company aims to raise $125,000 to help fund a production run.The lock incorporates a Fingerprint Cards FPC1020AM sensor, and the developers test-opened Ola over 31,042 times with one set of 4 AA-batteries, which is the equivalent of two years of normal use.The FPC sensor utilizes a radio frequency signal to scan the pattern under the surface of the skin, using technology that also helps prevent spoofing.The solution can also can schedule temporary keys for visitors or guests, and is linked to a mobile app that helps manage settings and users.The firm says that it aims to ship the first 100 Ola by October, and launch distribution for Kickstarter backers by March 2016.
