Police in the Iowan city of Keokuk have moved to a digital fingerprinting system developed by MorphoTrak.Officers told local media that the MorphoTrak LiveScan station scanning tools are significantly superior to the previous paper and ink fingerprinting system.Officer Mia Cooper told KTIV that prints were sent by mail to check against state and federal agencies for records.”Now within hours, [officers are] going to have information and if we have a murder or something horrible, that can be distributed nationwide because it can be done electronically,” Cooper said.Digital prints also mean higher quality, Assistant Chief Jay Whitaker told the news agency. He says this new process gets rid of errors that would sometimes take weeks to show up.
