Ivory Coast officials have said that foreign nationals can replace their current cards with new biometric cards versions.The card will store fingerprints and facial images, and be issued by the Office Nationale d'Identification.Officials have stated that with the official start of the issuance of the new biometric temporary resident card today, foreign workers currently holding non-biometric work cards should also now take steps to substitute the new cards for their old ones.The country is also a member of ECOWAS, which is currently a adopting single biometric identity card meant to facilitate free movement of persons within the sub-region.This month, regional leaders stressed that the issuance of biometric Identity Cards in all member states should be implemented forthwith, but also urged the reinforcement of civil registry system as a necessary precondition for issuance of travel documents.
