The International Organization for Migration has donated a biometric immigration solution to the Philippines that can help officials spot false documents and imposters.The “Verifier TD&B” imposter recognition software, donated by the IOM with funding from the Canadian government, will enable immigration authority control officers to crack down on human trafficking and other immigration fraudCanadian Ambassador to the Philippines Neil Reeder said: “It's a very sad reality that there are people who produce fraudulent [travel documents] and manipulate the most vulnerable in our society, including those here in the Philippines,” reported Rappler.Reed also noted that “the sale of these fraudulent documents unnecessarily puts people at risk with exploitation in the form of human trafficking. This in turns fuels the underground economy and undermines the social economic foundations of our collective societies.”In February, two VERIFIER TD&B systems were donated to the Vietnam Immigration Department by IOM and the Canadian government. The IOM has issued units of the document verification equipment to 10 ASEAN countries, as well as to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
