Slovak biometrics company Innovatrics has revealed that it is the first fingerprint technology company to pass the Minutiae Interoperability Exchange (MINEX) III continuing test organised by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).In results published by NIST on 5 August, Innovatrics become the first vendor to achieve full PIV compliance in MINEX III while also ranking first in most of the main accuracy and interoperability criteria. In a statement, Innovatrics noted that its template generator was the most accurate out of all vendors in both the pooled 2 finger and native 1 finger rankings. The template matcher performed the best in the native 1 finger ranking where it placed first among all submissions.”At Innovatrics, we are very proud to have been the first company to pass the MINEX III testing criteria. Achieving the top positions in both interoperability and the native accuracy ranking shows our dedication to innovation,” said Jan Lunter, chief technology officer. As part of the ongoing INCITS 378 fingerprint template evaluation MINEX III compares the accuracy and interoperability of fingerprint template generators and matchers. It also establishes their compliance with US Government's Personal Identity Verification (PIV) program.Compliance with the PIV program is often a mandatory requirement for worldwide public and private tenders that require fingerprint technology. The US government mandates the use of only fingerprint template generators and matchers which comply with the PIV program as it guarantees security and interoperability. In January, Innovatrics said its AFIS algorithm had achieved “an exceptional level of performance and generally excellent results” in the Fingerprint Vendor Technology Evaluation (FpVTE 2012) also organised by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
