Chinese publication CNMO (via GizmoChina) has claimed to that Huawei is planning to use Qualcomm's second-generation ultrasonic fingerprint technology for the Mate 20 Pro.According to the report, both Huawei Mate series of smartphones will feature in-display fingerprint scanners. While the Huawei Mate 20 is reported to use the conventional under-display fingerprint scanner, the Mate 20 Pro will have second-generation ultrasonic fingerprint sensor from Qualcomm. The difference is in the technology, as traditional under-display fingerprint scanner can only work under 300 microns of glass, whereas Qualcomm's second-generation ultrasonic fingerprint scanning technology is more powerful, and can work accurately under a glass of up to 800 microns thickness. The report also mentions that Huawei is likely to monopolize this technology until February 2019, which means no other flagship smartphone until that time will be able to incorporate the same ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. In addition, it is also noted that Huawei Mate 20 series may launch with 3D structured light face recognition technology, which as a result will increase the final price of these smartphones. While all these information is still at a nascent stage, it will be interesting to see what Huawei will eventually deliver with these smartphones when it launches around September-October time.
