Bars in the London borough of Havering are flocking to sign up for a fingerprint system being trialled by the Met Police that links ID cards to biometrics to check ages and criminal backgrounds.Officers say the equipment, which validates form of identification such as a driving licences or passports, is helping people enjoy safer nights out.Under the Clubscan system, customers simply need to provide ID and fingerprints before gaining late-night entry to bars.PC Jason Rose, Havering's licensing officer, said told a local newspaper, the Yellow Advertiser: “I would like to stress this equipment is for the safety of people in Havering”.”We hold weekly briefings with door staff and licensees to highlight any people of concern in relation to violence, theft, drug and other offences.Last month, it was revealed that door staff at clubs and bars in Liverpool are being issued with ultra violet (UV) lights which are effective in detecting when driving licences, passports and other forms of identification have been altered or are fakes.
