ENISA has launched a public consultation on a draft candidate certification scheme for providers of the EU Digital ID wallet after agreeing a 2-year deal to support the European Commission rollout of the wallet. The main wallet regulation came into effect in May 2024. Both entities will also hold an informative webinar to lay the foundations for the application of the candidate EU Digital Wallet certification scheme.

The ENISA agreement also includes developing a cybersecurity certification that focuses on the issuance of EUDI Wallets and user control features. A public survey allows stakeholders to comment on the proposed schemes after consulting working groups. The certifications solidify the EU-wide Wallet plans, creating non-negotiable benchmarks for trust and assurance of vendor solutions.

EU Cybersecurity Certification aims to establish a harmonised and secure digital identity framework that ensures seamless interoperability across the EU, while also enhancing secure and convenient digital interactions for both citizens and businesses throughout the Union” – ENISA

In 2024, ENISA approached cybersecurity experts for their interest to join the ENISA Ad Hoc Working Group on the certification of EUDI Wallets.
