A General Assembly for 140 members of the EU Digital Identity Wallet Consortium (EWC) took place earlier this month in Amsterdam, the destination for Identity Week Europe in June. The assembly attracts robust participation from representatives of the EU Commission, public and private sectors, all committed to the advancement of the EU Digital Identity Wallet. The dialogue on refining and testing credentials inside the digital ID wallet continued with the main players in one room, whilst large scale pilots across Europe prepare for eventually building the actual wallets. Across 2 days, members discussed how to bolster these pilots for progression with the EU ID Wallet across 3 critical domains: travel, organisational digital identity and payments.

These pilots are set to showcase the benefits and practical applicability of a unified digital identity framework across Europe, supported by the eIDAS 2 regulation.

Attendees were treated to demonstrations of the first implementations of the EUDI Wallet, highlighting its technical prowess and user-centric design aimed at fulfilling the varied needs of European citizens and organisations.

EWC Coordinator David Magård (Bolagsverket, Swedish Companies Registration Office): “We are happy to be in Amsterdam and grateful that the Netherlands Ministry of Economic Affairs and KvK (Dutch Chamber of Commerce) are hosting the second EWC general assembly on-site. EWC is at the forefront in enabling the European digital identity wallets for individuals and businesses, especially when it comes to traveling, making payments, and ensuring wallets for legal persons. We have come a long way in the first year of work in EWC, now we are fully ready to pilot. 2024 will be one of the most exciting years in digital identity.”
