Biometrics firm Crossmatch has announced that Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council (MCHC) member hospitals have submitted over 120,000 new hire fingerprint-based background checks via the Crossmatch livescan solution. The ability to submit new hire fingerprints onsite and automatically send these prints through MCHC's server to the Illinois State Police database saves time and money. The Illinois Health Care Worker Background Check Act requires unlicensed health care workers to submit to a fingerprint-based criminal history check. MCHC, an organization with over 150 healthcare members in the Chicago area, provides a processing service with respect to new hire fingerprint-based background checks. Prior to having the Crossmatch solution onsite, it often took a week for hospitals to receive the results.”The Crossmatch solution has reduced new hire criminal history background clearance time from one week to one day,” said Gary Drain, senior director, Human Capital Services & Employee Benefits Advisory Services at MCHC. “This significantly speeds up the new hire process for our members and their employees.”Crossmatch also offers multi-factor authentication solutions that secure access to networks and applications. These solutions are used in the healthcare sector to improve clinical workflow, provide proof of presence and assist in meeting compliance mandates. “We look forward to working with our members to expand their use of Crossmatch solutions,” noted Drain. “Protecting access to personally identifiable information (PII) in patient records is a top concern.”
