Research group Technavio has predicted that the US education market for biometrics will grow at a CAGR of 26.68% during the period 2014-2019.Time and attendance, and authentication are the major applications for which biometric technology is being used in the education sector, while fingerprint identification is the most commonly used biometric tech.Specific applications of the tech will include Access control, Prevention of cheating and Replacement of school IDs, among others, the group found.Earlier this year, a California school has dropped plans to add facial recognition as an added level of security to student's tablets, citing incompatibility issues. An Adelaide school also faced criticism over its plans to fingerprint students to improve attendance records.
