A biometric census system developed by the Florida-based Bio-Metrica is set to be trialled in Nigeria ahead of an upcoming national census. In a statement, Bio-Metrica noted that it has deployed a pilot system of its modular, Multi-Factor Biometric Census Registration System (CRS), for the National Population Commission for the upcoming 2018 Population Census. The Nigerian government has tasked the National Population Commission (NPC) to perform the 2018 Census using biometrics to ensure all citizens are properly identified and to reduce fraud.Utilizing Bio-Metrica developed handheld terminals, census takers will remotely enroll and verify the identity of citizens, with or without data connectivity, using both fingerprints and facial impressions. All information is collected via a custom-built Census Registration System (CRS) deployed by Bio-Metrica and its local Nigerian partner, Chronowerx Nigeria Limited.
