A biometric national identity card will be issued by Algeria from January 2016, according to a statement released at the end of the meeting of the Council of Ministers.The card will be a cornerstone in the modernization of the public service and in the promotion of the use of e-administration across the country, said the statement.It will also include a national identification number for each citizen, added the statement.In this regard, all public services “would be digitized and would become accessible to users, administrations and companies,” said the statement.President Bouteflika welcomed the use of biometric national identity card, which “will help speed up the governance of public affairs in our country,” he said.In this regard, the Head of State instructed the government to “mobilize all necessary resources to ensure its use nationwide the soonest possible.”
