With longer queues for passport checks after Brexit, summer chaos is expected again in the high summer season with e-gates banned for UK citizens until a new border management system is finally introduced in October. The system has continuously passed set dates for its launch as it readies to create efficiencies in travel and waits for ETIAS to become operational.
When the scheme is implemented, EES will register the traveller’s information including, biometrics and the entry and exit movements of non-member, third national travellers arriving into the EU. The latest date that seems to have stuck for rollout of the Entry/Exit System is October 2025, which should facilitate e-gate use for UK passengers.
The prime minister’s official spokesperson said that the UK would “be working with member states to roll that out as quickly as possible”.
