Thailand's police plan to deploy facial recognition at all borderpoints in the wake of a major terrorist attack.Police spokesman Pol Gen Prawut Thavornsiri made the announcement at a security seminar in Bangkok on Friday.Prawut said the biometric technology would scans facial features to detect if arrivals match criminal profiles.In August, the Thai prime minister accepted an offer from the US ambassador for facial recognition technology for an investigation into a deadly bombing on a famous shrine.He had sought the equipment following the deadly Erawan shrine blast at Ratchaprasong intersection on Aug 17 which killed 20 people and injured 130 others.Prawut said that it is unclear when the machines will be bought but that the civil service was developing terms of reference for the project.
