Enhancing the digital landscape of the air transport industry, SITA has announced its position as the lead investor in Indicio’s Series A funding round. This investment strengthens a longstanding partnership between the two, aiming to fast-track the adoption of trusted digital identities for travel.

SITA’s commitment to accelerating the sector’s digital transformation is underscored by this strategic financial injection into Indicio, a leader in decentralized identity technology.

Jeremy Springall, SITA’s Senior Vice President Borders, emphasised the pivotal role of digital identity in reshaping air travel. “Digital identity,” he stated, “is set to redefine passenger experiences, enabling faster, simpler journeys integrated with the broader travel ecosystem.”

The collaboration is set to introduce Digital Travel Credentials, allowing travellers to digitally encode their physical passports in alignment with International Civil Aviation Organization standards. These credentials, along with digital IDs and travel documents like visas and boarding passes, will be stored in passengers’ mobile wallets, empowering them with control over their personal data.

This initiative not only promises to streamline the identification process but also facilitates pre-travel border crossings, marking a significant leap towards seamless travel. The partnership aims to revolutionise identity checks and border control across various modes of travel, including commercial aviation and maritime, by leveraging a unique trust network.

Indicio’s CEO, Heather Dahl, reflected on the project’s ambitious scope, stating, “Together with SITA, we’re not just aiming high, we’re redefining trust in our digital world. This transformation, rooted in verified data’s integrity, paves the way for a more connected and secure digital economy.”

This ground-breaking venture is poised to change the face of travel, introducing unprecedented levels of efficiency and security to the air transport industry and beyond.
