secunet Security Networks has published the final set of test results from the SDW InterOp 2016 event held in London in May 2016, which can be downloaded below.SDW InterOp 2016, held alongside next-generation identity and document security solutions show SDW 2016, gave document manufacturers and document verification system providers a unique opportunity to test the interoperability of their solutions. This year's event was participated in by 17 vendors, with 27 document configurations registered and tested. Results from 8,502 individual test cases were collected by the conformity test laboratories.Supplemental Access Control (SAC), a set of security protocols to protect personal data stored in electronic ID documents such as ePassports and ID cards, was a major focus of the event.Although SAC has been implemented for some years, interoperability and conformity challenges still exist – particularly as more SAC enabled eMRTDs enter circulation, and with the introduction of new security mechanisms such as "Password Authenticated Connection Establishment with Chip Authentication Mapping" (PACE-CAM).In its conclusions on documents, secunet wrote: "The quality of the provided passport samples was very good. Compared to SDW In-terOp 2013 PACE is well understood by document providers and no longer poses a problem for them"For PACE-CAM there is still a need for some clarification work. For the conformity test plan, the conclusions of the test laboratories will be applied to the final release of the test case specification".For verifications systems, the test results found that there is still some work to do."It was obvious during the tests that access to a wide variety of document samples is vital for them to achieve good interoperability. They have to be prepared for the point in time when the first PACE documents without BAC fall-back will appear in the real world."
