Security Document World talks with Ruud van Leeuwen, Senior Document Expert/Trainer, Keesing Technologies, The NetherlandsRuud van Leeuwen is a speaker at SDW 2015.What will your presentation be covering at this year's SDW 2015 event? The presentation is about effective secure document verification for the "untrained eye". Not only law enforcement agencies should be trained but also the individuals at organizations that frequently perform ad hoc ID checks. Why do you think this is an important topic? More than 80% of the document checks worldwide are performed by non-experts, working for financial institutions, hotels, recruitment agencies, etc. This is the main problem. Fraud involving identity documents is rampant. Around the world, thousands of organizations suffer losses running into millions of euros each day. Given the large number of ID documents currently in circulation, ID checking clearly presents organizations with an enormous challenge. If there is one thing you would like our attendees to take away from your presentation, what would that be?Awareness. It is not so difficult to obtain a forged, counterfeit, fraudulently obtained or look-a-like (authentic) ID document and the abuse of those ID documents can cause a lot of damage. What do you envisage the burning topics being in your field over the next 12 months? Due to the complexity and the sheer number of security features implemented in the new generation of eIDs we see an increasing number of abuse with authentic ID documents used by somebody that is not the rightful owner of the document (impostor or look-a-like). The problem with non-experts checking ID documents was, is and will be a burning topic.
