Fingerprint sensor prices will fall 40% in 2016 due to increased competition, an industry insider has told East Asian media.Sensor prices will dip below US$3, the sources, told Digitimes, noting that prices already dropped as low as less than US$5 at the end of 2015.There are more than 20 companies worldwide engaged in the development of fingerprint sensors, noted the newspaper.However, the continued fall in fingerprint sensor prices could prompt less-competitive players to leave the market, the sources said.In addition, falling prices of fingerprint sensors are set to accelerate their adoption by handset makers, the sources indicated. Android phone makers, particularly China-based ones, all intend to incorporate fingerprint sensors into their entry-level and mid-range models in 2016, the sources said.
