91% of attacks originate from phishing attempts, with the overall online crime landscape generating 25 million victims in the Netherlands. With increased reports, the new Anti-Phishing Shield pilot aims to blocking the risk for consumers across fraudulent and phishing sites. The initiative joining private and public sectors together has successfully caught 2 million attempts at phishing since its launch in July 2025. 

Telecoms and broadband operators have joined the attack in defence alongside police, the Dutch Banking Association, and Ministry of Justice and Security

INTERPOL has warned that financial fraud is now on an industrial and organised criminal scale, resulting in approximately USD 442 billion of global losses, according to Global Anti-Scam Alliance. Fraud enhanced by AI tools is also 4.5 times more profitable than traditional methods. 

“Fraud is no longer a peripheral threat, it is at the centre of polycriminality, intersecting with organised crime, human trafficking and cybercrime”. 

Since 2024, INTERPOL has supported member states in more than 1,500 financial scam cases.
