Malaysia's Maybank has become the first bank in Southeast Asia to offer biometric logins to its mobile banking app.The Quick Touch service on the Maybank2u app uses fingerprint authentication enabled by Apple's Touch ID.Staff said the service forms part of a digital strategy aimed to increase convenience and transaction speed – the touch login speeds up access to accounts by some 70% faster over the conventional six-digit personal identification number (PIN).”It is part of our efforts to bring to the market a convenient way for customers to check their account balance in real time of just two seconds,” said Maybank Head of Community Financial Services Malaysia, Hamirullah Boorhan.”we have invested in one of the latest innovations for mobile devices, namely biometric technology, to offer them this added convenience.””With the introduction of Quick Touch, we are targeting to grow our Quick Balance user base by 20% by year end,” said Hamirullah.
