Iranian officials have told the ICT Ministry to launch a study on the potential benefits of a nationwide ID programme.According to the Tehran Times, First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri asked the ministry to review the executive and technical aspects of the plan to launch the ID scheme.The first phase would involve launching a national ID website and issuing electronic ID cards are the main parts of the plan.Jahangiri insisted that Iran needs to improve electronic services in keeping with international developments.In 2012, Iran launched a biometric ID card that featured and electronic signature and which stored fingerprint and facial data.
