This clip is taken from an interview with the Digital ID Observatory, a permanent research project monitoring digital identity, system recognition in society and the opportunities that digital ID generates in the market. We assessed gender inclusion in the identity and broader technology fields, especially around the adoption rates of digital identity.

Studying the market and trends that are shaping the future of digital identity in society, we asked whether or not digital identity is a sector in which women are underrepresented.

“There is a gender gap between men and women working in the sector that also reflects in competencies, roles and opportunities that are related to women in this sector”.

How do we enhance the accessibility of digital ID for women in Italy? Who holds a digital ID in Italy?

“What we observe is that last year (2024) there was no significant difference between male and female owners of digital identity, among the citizens, from the user perspective, but when we studied digital identity for professional use, what we noticed is that 68% of digital identities for professionals are held by men”.

“We can observe that digital identity is a tool to measure inequalities in broader society”.

“This problem of inequality between male and female processing digital identity is a mirror of the work within society and how it is distributed”.
