IdenTrust, which is part of HID Global, has announced it is approved as an issuer of IdenTrust Global Common (IGC) PIV-I digital certificates for individuals requiring US Federal government interoperability and a high degree of identity assurance for both logical and physical access. The ability to issue an IGC PIV-I digital certificate is an addition to the IGC Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) as-a-service which offers Basic, Medium Software, Medium Hardware, and PIV-I Assurance levels. Companies updating their credentialing processes now have the option of using high assurance IGC PIV-I digital certificates which can be obtained via a software as a service (Saas) delivery model integrated with an on-premise Card Management System such as HID Global's ActivID CMS. High assurance digital certificates that are interoperable with the US Federal government are increasingly in demand. Contractors that communicate with Federal agencies or need access to Federal systems or government facilities, require logical and/or physical access interoperability that can be achieved with the use of a PIV-I digital certificate. The SaaS delivery model allows contractors to replace their legacy on-premise PKI infrastructures to eliminate the costs associated with operating a PKI. At the same time, the contractor remains able to control badging and credential issuance processes while having flexibility to issue digital certificates that are interoperable with the US Federal Government at all assurance levels up to PIV-I.Within the healthcare community, doctors currently use IGC digital certificates to digitally sign electronic prescriptions for controlled drugs and digital signing of other documents submitted to Federal agencies. Cross-certified digital identities will soon serve as a foundation for Health Information Exchange with agencies under Federal Health Architecture. Additionally, IGC cross-certified digital certificates can serve as a foundation of trust for state and local governments, police, first responders, bio containment teams, and other groups where the need to have certainty of identity and ability to immediately communicate with each other and with Federal agencies in a trusted and secure manner is crucial. "As the requirement to have digital certificates that are interoperable with the US Federal government becomes more commonplace, there is a need to have an economical and easy to use process in place for individuals to obtain digital certificates which frees them to focus on business as usual activities," says Vishvas Patel, Chief Architect and Vice President of Products at IdenTrust. "As an approved issuer of highly secure PIV-I digital certificates, IdenTrust looks forward to meeting the rising demand for our solution."
