Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei is diversifying fingerprint sensor supply sources, according to East Asian media.Fingerprint Cards (FPC) had been the sole supplier of fingerprint sensors for Huawei's handsets, said the sources. Goodix and Silead recently started to fulfill orders placed by Huawei, with shipments to expand in the fourth quarter of 2016, the sources indicated to DigiTimes.Both Goodix and Silead are shipping fingerprint sensors for Huawei's mid-range and entry-level handsets, while FPC supplies chips for Huawei's high-end products, the sources noted.Goodix' fingerprint sensor shipments are expected to reach nearly 40 million units in 2016, buoyed by orders from Huawei, Meizu and LeTV, while Silead will see its fingerprint sensor shipments approach 20 million units, according to industry sources.Meanwhile, on Thursday Synaptics announced its touch and display driver integration (TDDI) technology was selected for the Huawei nova smartphone. Synaptics said that its TouchView TDDI merges touchscreen controller and display driver IC (DDIC) technologies into a single chip .
