Taiwan-based secure microSD maker Go-Trust has announced a partnership with Japanese biometrics firm DDS that will focus on FIDO-ready hardware-based security for Android smartphones using a combination of microSD based security modules and biometric identification.Formed following talks at a 'Bye Bye Password' conference in Tokyo, the firms plan to use 'FIDO UAF 1.0' standards that will allows users to transact with any online service provider that offers FIDO authentication.The GO-Trust FIDO microSD can store private keys and other important credentials in a Trusted Execution Environment that is portable between mobile devices just by the transfer of the microSD.Both new Android smart phones with fingerprint readers and older smart phones without biometrics are included in the FIDO partnership.”Combining our technologies brings together the best biometric solutions and the security strength of the GO-Trust FIPS certified microSD secure element, which permits the easy transportability of identity between smart phones,” said Darren Lee CEO of GOTrust Technology Inc. “There is no longer any need to re-register all your applications and services when you upgrade your phone or change service provider.”said Kenji Miyoshino, CEO of DDS, said:”FIDO specifications open a world of secure authentication that is easy to use on smart phones and tablets. Working with GO-Trust we have security solutions that cover every Android user. We see FIDO being the new authentication standard in Japan in the very near future.” DDS became a FIDO Alliance member in April 2014 and is now spearheading the new FIDO Alliance standard in Japan.
