Sweden's Fingerprint Cards have launched “OneTouch” fingerprint sensors that can be housed under the glass typically used in smartphones and tablets. The new sensors can also be mounted under a sheet ceramics, according to the biometrics firm. The FPC1200 series, which are FPC's first offering in enabling touch fingerprint sensors to be mounted under a sheet of glass or ceramics, will be covered by zirconia, a high glossy ceramic with durable surface, mass producible in multi-colours and form-factors.According to the firm, the FPC1200 series have already passed extensive test and verification and are planned to be ready for mass production during Q3 2015.Meanwhile, commercial devices which use FPC1200 touch fingerprint sensors are expected in the coming months.Jörgen Lantto, President and CEO of FPC, comments: “With the FPC1200 series we extend our technology leadership for touch fingerprint sensors into new frontiers. Enabling our touch fingerprint sensors to be mounted under a sheet of glass or ceramics enhances the industrial design options for our sensors.”Based on the leading market position we have established with our existing product portfolio we already know that our customers are excited about our new product line. We are looking forward to enabling new compelling and innovative industrial designs embedding our FPC1200 touch fingerprint sensors”.Yesterday, Huawei announced that its Android smartphones Huawei Mate S and G8 feature FPC's touch fingerprint sensor FPC1025.Lantto said: ” Huawei is a leading global smartphone manufacturer and we are proud that Huawei selected FPC1025 for Huawei Mate S and G8, following up on the great success of Ascend Mate 7 embedding FPC1020, Honor 7 and MaiMang 4 both embedding FPC1025 and recently Honor 7i embedding FPC1145. FPC1025 supports 360 degree finger rotation capability, fast response time and industry leading 3D image quality”.
