Germany's Folienwerk Wolfen, which produces smart foils, has noted the benefits of Eastman's Tritan copolyester.In a statement, the firm said that Eastman Tritan copolyester sets a new benchmark for security critical documents."With Tritan, the market and the value-added chain of security documents increasingly see a breakthrough for the use of polymer-chemical working substances in their conception, manufacture and issue", said Folienwerk Wolfen.It added that Tritan is the only polymer that can keep pace with the rapid technological development of security features on plastic cards and especially with the quickly increasing installation of electronic components.The engineer Daniel Lützelschwab, who is working as an agent for Folienwerk Wolfen, added in the statement: "For demanding national identification documents (NID), the plastics that have been available up to now are only suitable to a limited degree."Polycarbonate is not resistant enough to chemicals, especially skin oils, and is subject to stress corrosion cracking. PVC is generally not durable enough. Only Tritan makes it possible for card producers to build in all mechanical, electronic, optical, biometric and cryptographic security features, which can be used to protect a smart card against forgeries, without having a negative effect on the required durability."
