Dubai residents and citizens from elsewhere in the United Arab Emirates can now use their ID cards to use a biometric e-gate system in Dubai International Airport, stated the immigration authorities.”Emiratis and UAE residents could use their valid ID card through e-gates,” said the Deputy Director of the GDRFA-Dubai, Major General Obaid Mohair Bin Surour. He said this follows a successful project implementation by the GDRFA-Dubai in co-operation with the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA).”This renders more convenience to the ID holders because, more so, they do not need to activate this service at the Emirates Identity Authority prior to travel,” said Bin Surour.Dubai International Airport was the first airport in the region and the third in the world to implement the e-gate, when it was launched in the country in 2002.Through e-gates, UAE visitors and residents can smoothly pass through passport control hassles within less than 20 seconds as they are only required to scan the cards, which have to match their fingerprints before proceeding to pass through passport control.
