PARIS – German biometric firm Dermalog has revealed a combined scanner which scans both passports and fingerprints on the same scanning surface.Until now two different scanners were required: one for passports and one for fingerprints. Now one scanner can capture both on the same surface. This innovation is an ideal solution for electronic gates, kiosks, border control and national registration.Dermalog is showing the new combined scanner, called VF1, at the CARTES exhibition in Paris from 17th until 19th September 2015.The new VF1 device captures passports or ID cards in color with highest resolution and quality. Infrared images and ultraviolet images of the documents are captured at the same time for evaluation of all security features of the document. An additional RFID reader inside the device gets the data from modern ePassports or electronic cards in parallel. As such the Dermalog VF1 is a top of the range full color passport scanner, confirming to international standers, with latest technology. Additionally a module for automatic detection of fake passports is available. In addition, the new VF1 captures one, two or four fingerprints with 500 dpi resolution and 256 grey levels on the same single scanner plate. The VF1 confirms to all international fingerprint standards for AFIS and biometric identification. It captures up to 4 fingerprints in one scan. This new type of device has also got all features and functions of a tenprint scanner and of a so called 4-4-2 scanner. Ten plain fingerprints as well as rolled fingerprints can also be taken by the VF1. Additionally the new scanner has got the most advanced technology for detection of fake fingerprints, in order to prevent from any fraud or misuse.Dermalog´s CEO, Gunther Mull told Planet Biometrics at Cartes that the device would be particularly suited to eGates and automated airport kiosks.Mull explains: “The VF1 scanner is our latest innovation to enable modern eGates and Kiosks using only one single scanner for passports and fingerprints. It´s capability to also capture signatures, barcodes and flight tickets, as well as arrival/departure documents on the same scanning area makes the VF1 even more versatile.”The firm added that the new VF1 is also ideal for national registration counters and for many other security applications with a single device on the desk for different types of document scans and for biometric capturing.
