CBP has announced hitting an impressive quota for verifying and processing one billion travellers across its CBP touchpoints.

Leveraging facial biometrics, passengers are matched to their legal document records, held by CBP, verified, and allowed to travel across sea, land and air touchpoints.

The 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks which was marked with poignant remembrance services last month serves as a reminder of the pledge by the travel industry to strengthen indomitable national security, which biometric technology played a role in facilitating through the Entry/Exit system.

This cutting edge technology has been optimised over 20 years of innovation to enhance national security, streamline the travel experience, protect privacy, and effectively combat multiplying threats like identity fraud including deepfakes.

The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States,” known as the 911 Commission, emphasized the need to accelerate the implementation of an automated biometric entry-exit data system.

The biometric industry is growing at a rapid rate, as initiatives such as this pave the way for biometrics to continue to become a part of everyday life. The CBP has embodied the Entry/Exit mission since 2013, monitoring non-citizens – also referred to as aliens – who enter and exit the U.S with 98% accuracy through biometrics. To date, CBP has biometrically identified more than 600,000 overstays and more than 2,300 impostors, strengthening national security; biometric tech is also being deployed for more uses within law enforcement and for effective border processing.

Passport stamps are being phased out with a shift towards fully using biometrics at the border, which significantly cuts processing and operating times.

Trump’s second administration passed the “Big Beautiful Bill”, despite some opposition from Democrats, making funds of $673 million readily available for biometric security infrastructure and to consolidate America’s status as a world leader in biometric processing for travellers.

To see how these policy mandates, entry/exit capabilities, and deepfake countermeasures will take shape in practice, industry leaders will gather at Identity Week America 2027 on September 1-2, 2027 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
