Argentina's social security agency has announced that all pensioners will need to undergo biometric registration to receive payments, and that all ATM payment services for benefits must also have fingerprint readers installed by June.The Administración Nacional de la Seguridad Social (ANSES) revealed on 30 December that banks will be responsible for taking the biometric data of pension beneficiaries as well as of their representatives.The body says the move “seeks to optimize the processes regarding payment and life certificates for pensions' owners and for non-contributive pensions or their authorized representatives through a technological, agile, secure, effective, reliable and simple system that uses biometric tools that allow capturing fingerprints in a digital way.”ANSES also said that under resolution 648, that from June all banks' ATM payment centers for the benefits must use digital person fingerprint readers.”Payers should incorporate biometric identification tools in each of its branches, such as Payment Centers and Mini Payment Centers, where the payment of benefits under the pension system is affected.” “Paying entities will have to incorporate biometric identification tools in each of their offices and payment centers, in which the corresponding payment of pensions of the Argentine Social Security Integrated System (SIPA) and non-contributive pensions take place,” the text also reads.In October 2013, Argentina's Banco Supervielle began rolling out fingerprint sensors across its branch network in a bid to stop relatives claiming the benefits of deceased customers.The ATMs, which use multispectral technology developed by Lumidigm, have since been installed in 77 bank branches throughout the country.
