Hundreds of local farmers, market vendors, and tricycle drivers in Barangay Tagas gained direct access to national identification and digital financial tools following a joint mobile initiative by the Philippine Statistics Authority and GCash from August 17-19.
The three-day event combined the “PSA PhilSys-on-Wheels” and “GCash KYC On-the-Go” programmes into a single service hub. Residents completed their PhilSys national ID registration and fully verified their GCash accounts on-site, bypassing traditional documentary barriers that historically excluded informal economy workers from formal banking.
Using the PSA eVerify system, identity authentication that typically takes several days was completed in minutes.
The rollout supports a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas directive requiring all e-wallets and digital banks to link with the PSA National ID system, a security standard first integrated by GCash in 2024. The automated cross-referencing mitigates identity theft while eliminating the need for users to submit multiple physical IDs.
Beyond registration, GCash representatives led financial literacy workshops to help residents navigate micro-loans, digital savings, insurance, and cashless payments.
The initiative follows record-breaking PhilSys enrolment figures across the region. According to PSA-Bicol, the agency registered 257,122 individuals from January to June, surpassing the 252,885 total registrations recorded for all of 2025.
By July, regional registrations reached 305,136, bringing Bicol’s total cumulative enrolment to 5,596,632 citizens, or 92.23 percent of the region’s population.
“The accomplishments of the first half of 2026 demonstrate the value of inter-agency collaboration in making government services more accessible to every Filipino,” said PSA-Bicol Regional Director Cynthia Perdiz. “By integrating National ID services into social protection and health initiatives, we are not only increasing registrations but also ensuring that beneficiaries are equipped with trusted proof of identity that enables them to access essential services.”
