A rapidly heating up tech war over who will become the smart device controlling IoT device has taken a new twist with reports that Apple is developing its own solution.The Siri-based smart home device that Apple is reportedly building to rival Amazon's Echo will also feature face recognition, according to a Bloomberg report.The unnamed product-what would be the company's most significant hardware release since the Apple Watch-is expected to include iPhone-like Siri commands. Users could, for instance, ask the device to read emails, send text messages, post to social media, and stream music.Bloomberg also hinted that Apple would also include the integration of mapping data, allowing the hub to inform owners of the best time to leave the house to beat traffic.Apple has acquired the facial recognition startups Faceshift and Emotient over the past two years, which may help the device act based on who is in a room or a person's emotional state.
