A new report by biometric analyst group, Acuity Market Intelligence, predicts that by 2020, 100% of smart mobile devices will include embedded biometric sensors as a standard feature.Report author Maxine Most commented: “Biometrics are a natural fit for the smart mobile devices we literally hold onto nearly every waking hour. This equates to a global mobile biometric market revenue of $34.6 billion annually by 2020, up from $1.62 billion in 2014 and a predicted $4.08 billion this year.Drilling down into the data, the analyst firm predicts that by 2020 there will be 4.8 billion biometrically enabled smart mobile devices generating $6.2 billion in biometric sensor revenue, 5.4 billion biometric app downloads generating $21.7 billion in annual revenues from direct purchase and software development fees, and 807 billion biometrically secured payment and non-payment transactions generating $6.7 billion in authentication fees.
