The Utah-based Mountain America Credit Union has signed up some 10,000 users for an eye vein biometric login system, without any marketing, since the function was launched in May.Speaking to the CreditUnionTimes, MACU staff said that the EyeVerify system has been deployed alongside a fingerprint login tool developed by Berkeley, Calif.-based Access Softek. For biometrics logins, MACU customer choose fingerprint authentication, eye print authentication or both. They can also opt out entirely.”We do not require our members to use one or the other or both,” Shelby Peterson, manager of product strategy for Mountain America, said to the newspaper. “We understand that our members might be weary of one technology over the other, so we really believe that we should give them the ability to choose.EyeVerify works by using an individual's unique eyeprint. The eyeprint is the map of blood vessels in the whites of the eyes, which is unique to each person. Each person has two eyeprints in each eye. The initial enrollment process takes less than a minute, and will capture the eyeprint on a smartphone or tablet camera. After that, logging in using Eyeprint ID simply involves looking into the front-facing camera. On June 25, MACU has become the first US credit union to offer dual biometric logins for its mobile banking app, with fingerprint and eye-vein authentication both on offer.
