Turkey is to begin printing new passports and ID cards next year as part of its preparations for the prospective lifting of visa restrictions for its citizens travelling to the Schengen zone.According to sources quoted in Turkish newspaper Hürriyet, the government has purchased the printing machines for the passports and will commence printing by March 2016.Visa liberalisation for Turkish citizens travelling to Schengen zone countries came as part of a wider EU agreement to pay Turkey 3 billion euros to stem the flow of refugees into Europe and to re-energise Turkey's EU accession talks.Issuing upgraded passports is one of the conditions that the Turkish government must meet for visa liberalisation to become a reality.
