Thailand's Foreign Ministry has had to cancel bidding for an ePassport contract as only one company was involved.The bidding was for the Third Phase of Thailand's Electronic Passport (e-Passport III), reports the Bangkok Post.The newspaper cites Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs Chatri Archjananun as saying that it is normal for agencies in the public sector to cancel the bidding process if they see that it is in the public interest. Last March, the Foreign Ministry said that ePassport issuance will not be impacted by the end of a contract with a conglomerate."We affirm that the issuance of E-passport will proceede as usual," said a statement issued by the ministry at the time, reported The Nation.The newspaper reported ministry is facing a problem with the passport books issuance as its current contract with an outsource company will end soon.A new round of bidding will be announced, the ministry added.
