Bahamian immigration officials have said that faulty software has caused delays in the passport application process, while promising that new border management equipment is in the pipeline.Immigration Minister Fred Mitchell said that existing software had collapsed just as the Department of Immigration and the Passport Office was in the finishing stages of upgrades to new management systems. He said at a press conference last week that the department wants Bahamians to apply for e-passports, reported Tribune242."We're trying to get in the finishing stages [of this upgrade] so that we can move onto the next generation and we don't have a huge problem facing us in the summer time."
